Extend an image on one side

Add extra room on one side of a photo — handy for a title or a caption.

A tall portrait of a hiker made into a wide banner: the photo is untouched on the right and soft blurred edges fill the new space.

Choose the side, say how much, and only that edge grows. The rest of the frame — and every pixel you photographed — stays exactly where it was.

Opens on the right side, a quarter of the photo's width, with smart extend. The dashed box marks the new strip as room for a title.

What this does to your photo

It adds columns or rows on the side you choose and nowhere else. The photograph is placed into the bigger canvas at one pixel to one pixel, so the side you did not pick keeps its exact edge and the picture keeps its exact sharpness. Only the new strip is built, and the readout under the board says how much of the finished frame that is.

This is the commonest creator job there is — a product shot that needs space on the left for a headline, a portrait that needs headroom for a thumbnail title, a landscape that needs to be wider for a banner — and it is a different job from changing the shape: you decide the depth, not a ratio.

How much is built, on a 4000 × 3000 photo

Top, 20%4,000 × 3,60017%

A quarter of the width on one side builds a fifth of the finished frame — the photo is still four fifths of what you save. Push past half and the fill starts to carry the picture, which is when the model stops being offered and a quiet fill is the better choice.

The awkward questions

Can I extend just one side of a photo?

Yes — that is what this page opens on. Pick Top, Right, Bottom or Left (or both sides of one axis) and say how much, as a percentage of the photo. Only that side grows; the other three edges stay exactly where the camera put them, and the photo itself is never resampled.

What fills the new strip?

Smart extend, to start: the texture at the seam is carried across and the edge's own colours run outward and soften with distance, so a sky keeps its gradient and a horizon stays level. Blur, mirror, a flat colour or a gradient are one tap away in the Fill tab, each previewed on your own photo.

Will the AI fill work for this?

Often, because a one-sided extension is the case the model handles best — there is a whole photo beside the new strip and only one edge to continue. On a 4000 × 3000 photo widened 25% to the right, it is in reach (2 passes). The Generate tab computes the same verdict for your own photo before anything downloads.

How do I make room for a title or caption?

Extend the side where the text will go, then keep the fill quiet — blurred cover or one colour taken from the edge reads best behind lettering. The dashed box on the board marks the added strip as the title area, so you can judge whether it is wide enough before you save.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. The photo is opened, extended and saved by this tab. There is no server behind the page to send it to.
