For this conversion the model is within reach: about 672 new columns on each side, 6 passes of about 15 seconds in total, after a one-time download you have to agree to. A blurred cover is what the page starts on, and it needs no download at all.
Measured on a 4032 x 3024 phone photo: a 5,376 x 3,024 canvas, 672 new columns a side. Open your own photograph and the rail recomputes all of it against that file. It continues a wall, a sky, a lawn, gravel, water or a soft out-of-focus background, because those carry on past the frame in a way that is predictable from the edge itself. Every limit, in one table.
Type any W:H — a decimal ratio or a size in centimetres works too — and the canvas grows to that shape around the whole photo.
Opens on 16:9 with the ratio field ready for typing. The line under it names the nearest standard ratio.
What this does to your photo
A ratio is reached by growing the axis that is short, never by shrinking the one that is long. A 4:3 photo asked for 16:9 gets wider; asked for 4:5 it gets taller. Either way every row and column you photographed is still in the file, and only the added band is built — with blur, mirror, smart extend, a colour, a gradient, nothing at all, or the on-device model where its reach check allows.
The canvas two phone photos need
| Target | 4032 × 3024 (4:3) | 3024 × 4032 (3:4) |
|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | 4,032 × 4,032 · 25% built | 4,032 × 4,032 · 25% built |
| 4:5 | 4,032 × 5,040 · 40% built | 3,226 × 4,032 · 6% built |
| 16:9 | 5,376 × 3,024 · 25% built | 7,168 × 4,032 · 58% built |
| 21:9 | 7,056 × 3,024 · 43% built | 9,408 × 4,032 · 68% built |
The same target costs very different amounts depending on which way round the photo was taken. A square asks least of a photo already close to square; a cinematic 21:9 asks most of an upright one.
The awkward questions
How do I change the aspect ratio without cropping?
Grow the short side instead of trimming the long one. Type the ratio you need — 16:9, 4:5, 1.91:1 — and the canvas widens or heightens until it has that shape, with your whole photo inside it at its own size. Choose what fills the new strip in the Fill tab.
Can I type a ratio that is not in the list?
Yes. The field takes any W:H between 1:10 and 10:1, with decimals (1.91:1, 2.35:1) and with sizes in centimetres, millimetres or inches (3.5 x 4.5 cm is reduced to its proportion). Under it, the page names the nearest standard ratio and what it is usually used for.
My form asks for 3.5 × 4.5 cm. Does typing that give me the right file?
It gives you the right shape. A size in centimetres only becomes pixels at a print density; the canvas takes the proportion. If your notice also names pixels or a KB band, use the signature page or the JPG-size page, which carry those presets with their sources.
Why does 21:9 make my photo look so small in the frame?
Because a 4:3 photo taken to 21:9 needs a canvas well over twice its area — most of the frame is built. The table on this page shows the figure for two common phone shapes; the board shows it for yours, with the crop you avoided drawn as a dashed box.
Is the photo resized?
Not in Shape mode: it goes in one pixel to one pixel. Only Exact size scales it, and the panel prints the percentage when it does.
